The University of Granada organizes the 39th edition of the world congress of the International Association of Hydro-environmental Engineering and Research (IAHR). The opening ceremony will be held on Monday, June 20, at 10:00 a.m., at the Granada Congress Palace. The rector of the UGR, Pilar Aranda, will participate in the event, in which the rector of the University of Science and Technology of Macau and president of IAHR, Joseph Hun-wei Lee, will also participate; the general director of Water of the Government of Spain, Teodoro Estrela Monreal; the general secretary of Environment, Water and Climate Change of the Government of Andalusia, Sergio Arjona Jiménez; UNESCO Assistant Director of Natural Sciences, Shamila Nair-Bedouelle; the director of the Center for Studies and Experimentation of Public Works (CEDEX), Áurea Perucho Martínez; the mayor of Granada, Francisco Cuenca; and the honorary member of IAHR, Felipe Martínez.
Under the general motto “From snow to sea”, the congress will run until June 24 and will focus attention on the importance of integrated and intelligent management of the integral water cycle, to address the global challenges that lie ahead. Thematic panels will be organized on water governance, artificial intelligence and ecohydraulics, among others. Among the featured presentations of the program are “Coastal resilience in the face of climate change”, which will be given by the United Nations (UN) decade of Ocean Sciences, Nadia Pinardi; or “Fluid Mechanics”, which will be taught by University of Washington professor Steve Brunton.
