This week, students from the Technology and Engineering course at IES Padre Suárez (Granada), as well as students from the guest centre IES Aricel (Albolote) are completing a key phase of the CanSat project, an educational initiative promoted by the European Space Agency. The aim of the project is to design and launch a mini-satellite the size of a soda can, capable of carrying out real scientific missions during its descent by parachute after being launched from a height of several metres.
From the Environmental Flow Dynamics Group, we have collaborated by offering our facilities to test the parachutes developed by the students. The tests were carried out in our boundary layer wind tunnel, allowing us to record experimental data on pressure, force and velocity both in front of and behind the parachute.
