The entire university community is invited to the following seminar:
Title: Earth calling science: how and why of science outreach.
Speaker: Prof. Arturo Quirantes of the University of Granada.
Location: Conference Room of the Andalusian Institute for Earth System Research (IISTA)
Day and time: Friday, April 5, 2019, at 1:00 p.m.
Overview:
A fundamental element of the scientific method is the communication and exchange of results. Every science professional has it perfectly assumed. However, that communication is usually done to other scientists, and not to the general public. There is a lack of communication between science and society, which must be remedied for the good of all. The public has the right to know how their money is used, and science professionals can benefit from better communication of their results. Currently, science popularization is consolidating as a tool to show science to those who do not know science. The recent creation of the six-year period for the transfer of knowledge is a first academic recognition of the work of popularizers, but it is not the only one.
